My goal is to help you find the right colleges for your son or daughter. The schools that are right for your neighbor’s child might not be right for you or your family.
Through my consulting program, I try to inspire your child to think creatively about his or her future academic and professional career. We spend from a few months to a few years together to carefully determine which colleges are most likely to provide the educational environment that will enable your child to reach his or her potential.
I can help you identify these schools—but your child must help me by honestly answering questions and completing our self-reflective exercises. The work is challenging, admittedly, but the results pay off in the end!
Together, we creatively explore available educational options and work hard to ensure that your child earns acceptance letters.
Q. Will I receive individual attention through the process?
A. Every applicant who works with me receives my personal attention in an individualized program – there are no hand-offs to junior associates. I help students and families find particular academic programs, schools likely to offer attractive merit packages, and/or campuses with specific resources to accommodate students with special needs. The goal is to take advantage of every admissions benefit available to you at both selective and less selective institutions.
As an admissions professional on your side, I work directly for you. I will help you carefully evaluate the educational quality and market value of various schools, programs, and degrees. You can speak candidly about your college applications with me, without having to worry that any off-the-record discussions with your school guidance counselor might influence recommendations from your high school.
Q. My child is a complex person. I want her to find a college that will satisfy a number of different things that she and I are looking for. Can you help?
A. I am a complex person too. I love life, learning, and helping students explore academic options while preparing for future careers. I have the academic credentials and experience you would expect from a world-class consultant, and I pride myself on understanding and appreciating the many skills and complexities of my students. I am of the same social and professional world as most of my families—enabling me to relate well to your desire for multi-faceted success.
I understand that there is more to life than grades and SATs. I know your child is special. I gear my program to help communicate his or her special qualities to colleges while helping to find schools that are right – schools that give your child the best possible education and satisfy his or her academic, social, religious, and cultural needs.
Listed below are some colleges and universities that have accepted my students over the past 20 years:
“I went to college 25 years ago. The world is a lot different now. I have a gifted child, but I’m not sure the world would have known, if not for Steve Goodman. He provided up-to-date information about procedures for student-athletes and real insight into the inner workings of the overall admissions process.”
